Akikan

Well, now for something I didn’t quite enjoy as much as what I’ve talked about in previous posts, namely the anime series “Akikan”. It’s basically your typical shonen series. The protagonist, Kakeru something-or-other, is a collector of soda cans. Yes, his life is that interesting. Anyway, one day he buys a can of soda, and when he drinks from it, the can turns into a girl, who then proceeds to explain she’s an akikan (which I hear means “empty can”). She also turns out to be tsundere. Kakeru also has a female childhood friend who has a serious crush on him. Hilarity ensues.

Except I didn’t really like it. Don’t get me wrong, it could’ve been worthwhile to watch. It suffered a bit from poor execution. The animation quality isn’t really that great. I actually watched the show as it aired up until episode seven where I sort of lost interest in it (a decent story arc ended and I didn’t feel like keeping watching at that time), and then resumed to finish it a couple of days ago.

Look, it’s not good, but it’s not super mediocre either. The passes the characters make are pretty entertaining to listen to, for example. If I were to say something, it’d be that it’s watchable, if you don’t have anything better to do. It’s crap, I guess, but then again it is better than a lot of other crap. The manga or the light novels it’s based on is probably better. Go for that, if you must.
